The Monster review

Posted : 7 years, 3 months ago on 22 January 2017 08:08 (A review of The Monster)

Notes:
*I saw the trailer and thought it looked fairly interesting.
*I don't think Zoe Kazan looks like a mother least of all with a teen daughter. Although it looks like it would be possible given the actors actual ages.
*It's a small, but somewhat recognizable cast which is cool.
*Oh this is from writer/director Bryan Bertino of Strangers and Mockingbird so it should be a pretty decent film after those.
*Anyways let us see if this is actually any good though or not.

Pros:
*The acting was pretty decent.
*They made an interesting monster with practical effects rather than CGI.
*There were some interesting ideas here and there.
*I actually jumped once which doesn't happen often.

Cons:
*Zoe Kazan comes off more as an older sister rather than a mom. Not sure that is intentional or not.
*The story just felt too flimsy.
*I think the flashbacks felt like filler to a movie that could have been an interesting short film.
*Having two different storylines that don't relate much to each other was not a smart decision.
*It was sadly pretty boring with few attention grabbing moments.

Verdict:
I was pretty disappointed with this one. It's definitely Bryan Bertino's weakest effort today. It's not horrible mind you. There just doesn't feel like much to it. It has strong points like the acting and the monster. The weak though is a floppy storyline that was mostly boring. I expected more from this. Honestly I would say to give this one a pass.

Chopping Mall review

Posted : 7 years, 3 months ago on 19 January 2017 03:08 (A review of Chopping Mall)

Notes:
*I needed to watch something silly after seeing the very serious and tragic Patriots Day.
*There have been scenes I saw on youtube that make this look quite silly.
*It has a handful of names that horror fans and/or 80s fans would recognize that I wasn't expecting.
*This is the first I have seen from Jim Wynorski, but I have heard of some of his other stuff.
*As for the writer Steve Mitchell this is the only film I have seen or heard of from him.
*I'm curious if this will be just plan silly or actually fairly fun.

Pros:
*The characters were fairly likable.
*There were a couple of decent moments.
*It's pretty short and too the point.

Cons:
*The acting is a bit off.
*The deaths were pretty lame.
*Some of the things that happened were stupid.

Verdict:
It really wasn't all that great. It had some decent characters and moments, but overall I just wasn't all that interested. It's pretty corny too, but it fits the era of it's time in that matter.

Patriots Day review

Posted : 7 years, 3 months ago on 18 January 2017 10:38 (A review of Patriots Day)

Notes:
*I'm not sure what to really think before watching this.
*The only trailer I saw didn't show a lot to go on.
*I feel it's a tad soon, but then again these days it doesn't seem to take long for them to create films of tragedies and such.
*I have enjoyed all of Peter Berg's work with The Rundown, The Kingdom, and Lone Survivor.
*Matt Cook also wrote Triple 9 which I felt was just good.
*Joshua Zetumer also wrote the Robocop remake that wasn't that bad.
*Paul Tamasy was involved with the Air Bud series and The Fighter. What a strange combo.
*Eric Johnson also wrote The Fighter as well as The Finest Hours (Which I still need to see).
*So let's see if this is worth the watch.

Pros:
*The acting is pretty excellent.
*You really care about who these people were.
*I thought the way they ended the movie was a good idea.
*While it can be a bit graphic it doesn't seem like glorification.

Cons:
*It's a bit heavy on the graphic images which I feel is a tad too much for this.
*It feels a bit too long at times.

Verdict:
It's not really an easy watch if you ask me. When things are shown it gets pretty brutal. I'm really not sure if it was a good idea to have it be so graphic in parts. It's the kind of thing that isn't like a horror movie. You know these things happened. It's a really well done movie though. I wouldn't recommend it for people who can't handle grisly imagery however. If you can I would definitely say to check this one out.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them review

Posted : 7 years, 3 months ago on 16 January 2017 04:01 (A review of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them)

Notes:
*It's about time I got around to seeing this.
*I was super excited to see more of what the world of Harry Potter had to offer.
*The trailers looked excited and full of new and old creatures.
*I'm also curious about the American Wizarding school and such.
*The casting is pretty cool here.
*I think it is awesome that David Yates directed this after the Harry Potter series.
*I also like it that J.K. Rowling wrote this movie herself.
*To my recollection I haven't heard anything bad about this one.
*Time to finally check this one out!

Pros:
*These new characters are great specifically Newt, Queenie, and Kowalski.
*The beasts were pretty damn fantastic.
*Exploring more of this universe was pretty cool.
*The twists and turns were excellent and unexpected.
*I liked the references to the Harry Potter saga.
*Knowing there will be more of these characters in future installments.

Cons:
*I wish that it was longer lol.

Verdict:
This was an amazing and spectacular addition to the universe around Harry Potter. The creatures were beautiful. The characters were awesome. The acting was great. This is what you want to see from this universe. It was so much fun. I highly recommend this for fans of the Wizarding world.

Boo! A Madea Halloween review

Posted : 7 years, 3 months ago on 15 January 2017 06:39 (A review of Boo! A Madea Halloween)

Notes:
*I don't know why, but I find these Madea movies to be funny.
*The cast here is an interesting mixture with a lot of Youtubers as well as Madea regulars.
*Of course it is once again a writing and directing effort solely from Tyler Perry.
*It seems the idea for this came from the movie Top Five which had a Tyler Perry movie mentioned called Boo.
*Anyways I am curious to see if this is in fact any good.

Pros:
*The girls are attractive.
*Lizy Koshy's acting was actually decent.
*Joe and Hattie.
*It has some funny moments.

Cons:
*The acting is a bit off from a lot of people here.
*Some were bad at comedy while others came off as silly trying to be serious.
*Most of this was bland.
*I couldn't tell if this was canon or not.

Verdict:
This is definitely the worst Madea movie so far. It's mostly unfunny with lots of bad acting. It just felt like a parody of itself and just didn't care to try. It could have been funny. It had some bits here and there I liked. I just think they didn't care with actually doing something good here. The main girl was almost always off with her acting. Yousef Erakat did terrible comedy here, but his very seldom serious moments were better. Lizy Koshy is actually pretty decent to my surprise. I think my favorite characters here were Hattie and Joe though. Anyways this is just terrible for Madea fans as well as people looking for something new.

Bad Kids of Crestview Academy review

Posted : 7 years, 3 months ago on 13 January 2017 10:10 (A review of Bad Kids of Crestview Academy)

Notes:
*I knew they would be making a sequel to the fun and crazy Bad Kids Go to Hell.
*When I saw the trailer I knew I would be watching this ASAP.
*I hope this is even just close to as fun as the first one.
*It would have been great if Judd Nelson had returned as the Headmaster instead of being replaced by Sean Astin.
*Then again it doesn't seem like this will be all that much like the Breakfast Club like that one was.
*I haven't seen Drake Bell in something for awhile which I thought was interesting.
*Ben Browder returns from part one not only as his character, but also as a first time director.
*The only other returning cast member to play their character is Cameron Deane Stewart.
*Barry Wernick returns as the writer for this sequel.
*James R. Hallam is a first timer for film in general as the other writer.
*Anyways I'm pretty excited to see what's in store for me.

Pros:
*The opening was intriguing and different.
*There is a pretty amusing disclaimer at the end of the movie.
*Most of the characters were interesting.
*It started off a bit bland, but it got better as it went.
*As it went it got more creative ideas and such.
*There were some nice twists and turns.
*The style that they tell the story in parts was pretty fun.
*I liked the little bits and references to the first part.

Cons:
*The acting is not always that good.
*It doesn't feel the same without Judd Nelson.
*It wasn't as much fun as the first one.
*There were things that felt a bit too silly for me.

Verdict:
I thought it was a decent movie. It's not quite as fun or good as Go To Hell, but it wasn't all that bad. I probably wouldn't watch it again though to be honest. You would have to be a pretty big fan of everything to enjoy it. Otherwise I think it will be a miss for many.

Dead Before Dawn review

Posted : 7 years, 3 months ago on 12 January 2017 05:45 (A review of Dead Before Dawn)

Notes:
*Zombies are my jam I don't care what anyone has to say on the matter lol.
*I saw the trailer recently and thought it looked stupid funny.
*It does have some actors I like so that's a plus.
*It's directed by April Mullen (who is attractive let's be honest) of which this will be the first I've seen by her.
*Tim Doiron has only written a few movies of which all are with April Mullen.
*Let's hope this is as enjoyable as it looked.

Pros:
*This was actually pretty damn funny.
*It was definitely the good kind of stupid.
*I liked all the characters and thought everyone did a great job.
*The girls were gorgeous ;)

Cons:
*I felt like the end was sort of a cop out.
*The CGI stuff was pretty dreadful.

Verdict:
It's really not so bad. I laughed through a lot of it. The characters were great and fun. They were actually somewhat developed as opposed to many films like this. Turn off your brain and enjoy the silliness.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe review

Posted : 7 years, 3 months ago on 11 January 2017 11:08 (A review of The Autopsy of Jane Doe)

Notes:
*I really didn't know much of this besides it being on a few lists of best horror in 2016 and my friend posting on Facebook about it.
*Other than that it looks like a mixture of being like a possession movie mixed with the oddball movie Deadgirl.
*Andrรฉ ร˜vredal also directed Trollhunter which was a pretty interesting and different movie.
*This is the first outing for the writers though.
*The cast is pretty small, but they chose wisely.
*So let's see if this really is worth it as they say.

Pros:
*It gets better and better as it goes.
*The twists and turns are remarkably fresh and entertaining.
*I thought it was fairly original.
*The soundtrack was nice and eerie.
*Everyone did a great job here. I do wonder how it must have been to play a corpse.
*The ending makes sense if you think about it all and wraps it up nicely.

Cons:
*I would have liked a little more explanation of things.
*It could have been longer.
*There were some things that could have been handled a bit better.

Verdict:
It's definitely a creepy movie. As things go on it progressively gets more intense and disturbing. I thought the twists and turns were great. There were some ideas and spots that were a bit iffy, but overall this was really good. If you like a supernatural sort of horror I definitely would recommend this one.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story review

Posted : 7 years, 3 months ago on 11 January 2017 07:14 (A review of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story)

Notes:
*I have had this at my theater since it came out, but we weren't allowed to watch it until the 2nd of January via Disney's rules. I ended up very busy until I finally get to check it out 8 days after the freedom period.
*Gareth Edwards also helmed as the director of Monsters and Godzilla which were both excellent.
*Chris Weitz has an interesting writing background with the live action Cinderella, About a Boy, The Golden Compass, and Antz under his belt.
*Tony Gilroy has been known for writing Armageddon and being a part of the first four Bourne movies.
*This is the first film written by John Knoll.
*Gary Whitta has been involved with the writing of After Earth as well as The Book of Eli.
*I hope this is as much fun as I believe it to be.

Pros:
*The cameos and references to the other films.
*K-2SO!
*Donnie Yen as Chirrut
*Honestly all the new characters were pretty awesome.
*Any moment with Darth Vader.
*The fight/battle scenes were awesome.
*This is by far my favorite work from Gareth Edwards so far.
*It's so much cooler than I was hoping.

Cons:
*Not enough of Vader lol.

Verdict:
I don't know which punks are complaining about having Star Wars films every year, but I for one happily approve. Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One are excellent entries into the saga. I'm hoping Episode 8 and the Han Solo one off will be just as good. The newly introduced characters of the lore here were awesome. The battles were truly intense. I mean the last half of this movie will have you on the edge of your seat. It's so much fun. Definitely a must watch if you haven't gotten around to it yet.

Alpha and Omega 7: The Big Fureeze review

Posted : 7 years, 3 months ago on 11 January 2017 06:23 (A review of Alpha and Omega 7: The Big Fureeze)

Notes:
*They spew these out carelessly.
*I have no idea why I watch these. It could be my determination to finish stories.
*The mains return with others who haven't been a part of the series for awhile.
*Tim Maltby who directed the previous film returns again for this.
*Tom Kane has stuck with this series as the writer since part 2. I can't see why.

Pros:
*Is there any?

Cons:
*It's not only bad, but it's extremely boring.
*I don't even see how kids enjoy these.
*I noticed parts where the CGI was actually broken.

Verdict:
I do believe these are getting even worse as they go. They just keep producing these without a care of if they are any good or not. I guess I am partly to blame for continuously watching these. For the sake of your kids they shouldn't even check these out. This was one of the most boring of the entries even if it had conflicts in it. I felt nothing at all when I watched it.
