Late Phases (2014) review

Posted : 8 years, 8 months ago on 6 March 2016 08:14 (A review of Late Phases (2014))

So this has been on my to watch list for awhile. I've seen it on peoples' lists about how awesome it is. I just never really got around to it. Since it's on Netflix I decided to go ahead and get on with it. Adriรกn Garcรญa Bogliano has directed another movie which I found to be pretty enjoyable called Here Comes the Devil. I haven't seen anything by the writer Eric Stolze. The cast looks to be pretty well thought out as well. Almost two and a half minutes of plain jane opening credits. It's interesting to have the main character be a blind man. I think it definitely adds a new quality to this kind of movie. Lol yeah man you tell them. Uh oh something is lurking! I like that this doesn't hold back on introducing the monster. Aw no not Delores she was such a sweet lady! It's probably the ugliest werewolf I've seen though. Damn pulling at the heart strings early on. Proof that blind doesn't mean stupid. I always like that mystery of who is the werewolf. Ambrose the man of little words who is still very much a badass. Dogs know when something is up which means that it's near. His name was what??? Ah so cruel! Oh well the mystery is over now. Well that's disturbing and different. What the hell!? Oh damn I get it. So the father in a way knew it wow. That transformation is actually pretty unique. That was the perfect reaction. I seriously don't like the werewolf face sadly. Well the build up to the finale makes the whole last act that much more epic. Oh crap! That's pretty smart. Damn that has got to hurt! That was such an excellent ending. I thought the battle was interesting and well thought out. The only gripe I had with this was the werewolf effects. Their faces just looked so weird. The acting was excellent. The characters were interesting. I have to say Ambrose is definitely up there among badasses. I suggest checking this one out despite the average rating.

Truth or Die review

Posted : 8 years, 8 months ago on 6 March 2016 06:04 (A review of Truth or Die)

Netflix always has someone in its depths that I get bored enough to check out. This happens to be one of those times. It seems to be average for the people who have seen it. In that case this may be at least watchable if anything. I haven't seen or even heard of the other films by the director or the writer. It has the princess from Vikings who I find rather interesting and unique looking. Yep that's pretty much the ingredients for the typical horror film drugs, booze, and drama. Tom Kane looks like Iwan Rheon a little. Oh well that's embarrassing and I doubt that would happen to me lol. That's gotta make a nice guy with a crush feel sad. See that always leads to trouble! How convenient of it all to go this way. Oh yes I saw it going this way just thought that it would be another way. It can only escalate from here. So far it's giving me a vibe like the movie Would You Rather also quite an interesting watch. Well that was an interesting change of pace. This goes wheels off pretty damn quickly wow! Man this is really making me nervous. Tension brings out the worst in friends sometimes. You are just signing your death sentence. I swear this movie really knows how to make you squirm. Oh what the hell are you doing damnit!? It gets even more twisted as it goes! Aw man why would you do that!? This change of events is quite different than what exactly I was expecting. That is definitely not what I pictured would be the reason for all of this. The ending was insane. The twists and turns throughout are excellent! The tension kept me gripping my seat. The characters are all pretty interesting. For the most part Luke was the most likable I guess, but in movies like this everyone has their flaws. The acting was pretty great. Overall it's a very entertaining film. I think it's a bit underrated.

Hot Bot (2016) review

Posted : 8 years, 8 months ago on 4 March 2016 05:49 (A review of Hot Bot (2016))

So I saw that this was on Netflix and since it's new I was curious about it. It has a pretty decent cast for being unknown. The plot sounds very similar to Weird Science just without the part where the kids create the girl. Oh it's by the brothers that made Astronaut Farmer a big leap of difference for them. I'm sure it should be an interesting watch. I find it amusing that they used an Abraham Lincoln quote. Oh wow these bots really don't play games lol. No you never open the box! Did he just fry a piece of gum or what? Larry Miller has some guts, but I didn't want to see all that. Also that was just wrong. I don't think that's how getting hit by a car works. Fat friends with curly hair usually end up being the more inappropriate of the friends. Yeah this is definitely a more adult and crude version of Weird Science. She is way too serious looking. The actress shouldn't have taken this job if she was going to be one of those types. Well she still pulls off being super hot. Eww the idea of refurbished sex toys is just wrong! She sure has a way with words. This kid is definitely way too nice. Um they aren't going to get weird with this are they? Thank God. Lol oh goodness. Well this has to be the most disturbing torture sequence. Did he really ask why because I saw that answer coming. What the hell was that lol? Such a weird family. That's pretty gross dude. Yeah so this dude is really screwed up! A sex bot that can fight huh. Also why the hell did she leave them in there? Well he definitely had that coming. Yeah that has to be really awkward. Man everyone here is really weird. Those are some awful disguises. Well that is certainly a different way to lose people chasing you. Well that was an interesting ending. I mean I kind of figured that would happen, but wasn't sure how it would. There are some bloopers during the early part of the credits. I thought it was decent. It wasn't anything special, but it kept me entertained. It's a weird one though.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip review

Posted : 8 years, 8 months ago on 3 March 2016 11:23 (A review of Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip)

So yeah I'm watching this. This hasn't been a good series by a long shot. I tend to be a bit too curious though for my own good. I wanted to see how awful it is for myself. Also I do this to warn others not to do the same. Wow Walt Becker is definitely the choice you want when you know your movie is already doomed. I mean Wild Hogs and the just average Van Wilder. The writers are a little better here. Randi Mayem Singer brought us Mrs. Doubtfire, but then again he also did the dreadful Tooth Fairy. Adam Sztykiel wrote Due Date and Made of Honor which were both pretty enjoyable. At least most of the cast is committed which I think is because they want to prove they aren't quitters. Another possibility is they signed a contract and can't exactly escape. I swear Dave must be a wreck since he can't stick with a single love interest lol. Aww no cute logo opening that's a shame. Okay so not actually a bad opening and fairly amusing. Ah the classic Dave and Alvin exchange. Kimberly Williams-Paisley is fine looking, but I think she is a downgrade from Dave's other girls. So Miles is the typical bully stepbrother type who acts like an idiot around girls and will end up being the best of friends with the Chipmunks. What a show off. Jennifer Coolidge knocks this down a notch. She is way too unattractive to always play that older cougar. Yay Crazy Eyes! Okay that airport security scene is actually pretty funny. Aw what a cute monkey. Theodore you naive little creature monkeys are mischievous. LOL OMG Pink Flamingos reference. I don't think Alvin is old enough for that though. You are probably the worst Air Marshall in history haha. Great the curse of country music. I guess Tony Hale is David Cross's replacement as the guy who hates Chipmunks. At least he has a legitimate reason. At least we aren't the only ones who notice the groan worthy jokes. I swear Mardi Gras should not be allowed in movies for kids. Lol I swear sometimes I wish I could yell that loud. Haha that is just wrong! Aww poor guy. That would never work. Suggsy really dude? Wow dingleberries mentioned in a kids movie huh. Damn that's messed up and pretty hilarious. I swear Bella Thorne is basically playing herself only slightly altered. Well that's a disaster. Hmm this really wasn't the worst of the series. It was super predictable and really cheesy. It did however get some laughs out of me. I think it's better than Chipwrecked. Not that that says much.

Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland review

Posted : 8 years, 8 months ago on 3 March 2016 10:28 (A review of Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland)

So on a Netflix binge I had watched the Blue Mountain State series rather quickly. I thought it was hilarious in the most awkward ways. The characters were hilarious and awesome. I think I decided to watch the series in part so I could watch this. I love that some of the characters who disappeared from the show return for the movie. That's always wonderful. Lev L. Spiro stays on as the director here. Even Eric Falconer and Chris Romano write like usual. I think the only difference is that Alan Ritchson also takes on some of the writing. Ah the opening narrative is a nice throwback. I swear Alan Ritchson knows how to make some interesting and different facial expressions. I wish I could wake up like that every day! Oh wow lol! Ah good ole fashioned Thad. Interesting so Jo Jo is gone and Larry is the new assistant coach. Yeah I think that has to be the opposite of cheering. I swear I should go to Blue Mountain State I think I would fit in with the humor. Cocaine the Thad kryptonite. OMG Chris Romano that was wrong yet I am not surprised. Interesting song. Thadland looks insane and I think I would go. I do like the moments where things are normal instead of always riddled with the silly humor. Donnie just got some mad respect for that. I kind of figured that would happen lol! You know it's bad news when Thad catches you being stupid. OMFG that threesome scene is probably one of the most hilarious scenes so far! Hell yeah about time he showed up! Are you serious?! That's insane, genius, and disgusting lol. Oh Thad you big, beautiful dork! Sammy good lord man! Okay that was crazy. It's about time that happened. I thought that scene would go another way. That was not unexpected, but it was amusing. More Radon and Shiloh would have been great. It was good to see them all again. The movie is a nice follow up to the series as well. It's not as great as I thought it would be though. A one time watch is worth it.

The Peanuts Movie review

Posted : 8 years, 8 months ago on 1 March 2016 10:38 (A review of The Peanuts Movie)

I've always liked Charlie Brown stuff. Snoopy is just awesome. The one gripe I have though is I don't really like the animation. I prefer the classic cartoon style. Anyways I still wanted to see this adventure unfold. Steve Martino is a pretty good cartoon director with Ice Age: Continental Drift (along with the Scrat shorts) and Horton Hears a Who. I think it's awesome as well that Schulz's family wrote some of this. This seems to be the only work by the other writer Cornelius Uliano though. I think it's awesome that they didn't replace Bill Melendez as it's unnecessary. I appreciated the logo opening with Schroeder playing the piano. Kites plus winter don't really add up lol. That fence was pointless anyways. Aww poor Snoopy. Kids are silly. Woodstock is probably how most kids would have felt about that haha. That face is the face of nightmares. Okay maybe not, but yeah it doesn't make you comfortable. Okay the gags throughout are pretty amusing. I haven't seen that dance in so many years! It's interesting that they don't really show the girls face even though I'm pretty sure she looks like just about all the girls. Oh how some mistakes can create legends lol. "Following in the footsteps of greatness." Lol that line was too funny. The right thing doesn't always make a good impression. Good grief that's some bad luck. That's gotta be pretty awkward. Haha oh that was a nice little reference. Yeah that was pretty much what I expected. It has a few scenes during the credits and one after them too. It's a cute movie with a lot of homage to the original works, but it adds it's own little quirkiness as well. It wasn't really anything spectacular though. It's nostalgic and that's really what makes it enjoyable in my opinion.

High Lane review

Posted : 8 years, 9 months ago on 29 February 2016 08:18 (A review of High Lane)

The boredom has overcome me and I have randomly selected this to watch on Netflix. I'm not sure if it will be good or bad. I do know it's not rated highly on Netflix, but here and IMDB ratings prove it's about average. Oh it's French. They usually make good horror films so I am now a little more hopeful. This is the only Abel Ferry directed movie I've seen now. I have seen Louis-Paul Desanges' Mutants which I actually really liked. I haven't seen the films worked on by Johanne Bernard though. So far it seems like the typical scenario for your typical horror film. What the hell just happened after their picture? Opening credits that make you feel like you are watching a TV series. Ah the usual foreigners who can sing in English, but not speak it casually lol. Well damn that guy is definitely a risk taker. Ah that explains the weird scene after the camera went off earlier. Everyone needs to stop rushing in after each other. I know it's thrilling and makes things get more tense. I just think it's wise to chill. I mean I figured something was going to happen and kind of had to. Well they sure made it intense though. Uh oh now we get to the juicy bit! Well things are getting interesting that's for sure. Now that is something you just wouldn't expect to happen. Although they are making it interesting I still pretty much figured out in what order people would be offed in. When and how it happens is where it gets a little interesting. Oh damn! I don't think jealousy will help the situation dude. Dude really you are a bastard! That dude is a useless piece of shit. They should have let him fall! Nice try I guess, but I still don't approve of you. The formula here is pretty formulaic which is surprising since this is French cinema. Karma is a bitch and then wham not the person I expected with an arrow to the head! I saw that ending coming. Hmm apparently this is based on a true story. I didn't know that. It's a little formulaic, but even so it had a few bits where it got unpredictable. The acting was good. It was a decent watch, but nothing special. Nowhere near on level with Martyrs, High Tension, or Frontiers.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny review

Posted : 8 years, 9 months ago on 29 February 2016 03:19 (A review of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny)

I loved the first Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It's one of my favorite martial arts movies from back in the day. So when I heard this was coming I had to see it. Oh the nostalgia of being able to witness this sequel. I didn't know this was based off of a book though. John Fusco does average to below average movies which is kind of sad, but then again the director makes up for it with the movies I've seen of his. It seems that Michelle Yeoh is the only actor to return for the sequel sadly. Oh there are some very beautiful shots here already. Nice let's get this party started! A mask isn't going to hide that face from me lol. If it continues like this it will prove to be quite action packed. Ah well that was an interesting fight. Haha oh man that was pretty cheesy, but hey let's see how cool they end up being. Why does anyone think they can beat Donnie Yen? Okay yeah these characters are all pretty badass. OMG I was joking when I thought it, but the cook actually is a fighter too! With a stick huh?! I don't think that was very realistic and even less than usual. Interesting decision there. Oh yeah that's never wise. I don't think I have the patience to learn martial arts from instructors like these. I like how fluid these fight scenes are. Another interesting choice there. Hell no! Damn. Okay I didn't see that coming. Hey what do you know a little booty lol. Martial arts on ice badass! Well damn that was intense. Hell yeah epic battle scene! No! NO! NOO! Nice one! That was quite a wild fight. It's a great follow up to the 2000 epic. The action is awesome. The visuals are remarkable. I do wish Chow Yun-Fat or Ziyi Zhang would have made appearances, but it's really a minor gripe. I think it's definitely worth the watch.

Wetlands review

Posted : 8 years, 9 months ago on 28 February 2016 09:31 (A review of Wetlands)

We actually showed this at my theater awhile back I think before I actually worked there. From what I've heard about it I was curious. I wanted to see how really gross it is for myself. Thank God for Netflix and its tendency to add whatever they feel like. I don't know any of the writers or director of this or their work. I don't even think I know any of the actors from anything. Wait a minute the opening quote said this shouldn't have been made lol! That first shot hahaha omg this is already proving to be an oddball. Well this gets straight the the point then. Yeah I don't think much of you is very "ladylike" already. That is a disgusting bathroom I wouldn't dare be barefoot at least. Oh what is she thinking?! Well that was a creative, disturbing, and disgusting opening credits. Damn this girl is pretty blunt. That was just cruel and unnecessary. Just wrong! This girl has some serious issues. I'm glad I didn't end up with someone like her. I feel bad for this dude. The dialogue really takes the cake. It doesn't help that she is actually pretty attractive. Ahem well that was interesting bath time. Okay that religion montage was kind of funny especially the Star Wars bit. Eww Corinna no! Yeah put the hot pan on the plastic that makes sense. Well at least that part of her life is normal. Well this isn't exactly the kind of attention I want focused in butt shots lol. Yeah that really must hurt a lot. Probably not the smartest decision to make. That was an interesting way to make a scene. Also that can't be comfortable or pleasant. Oh my God dude eww! I wouldn't have reacted quite as calm. Also if I was in this particularly situation I wouldn't want a room full of interns watching! Wow um I hope no Ethiopians see this because they probably wouldn't like that one of their men goes full frontal. Also I was really not expecting that! She certainly isn't a subtle one. I swear some female friends get away with stuff guys could never do. A little Final Destination humor lol. Oh lord hahah! Yeah that's not gross at all not! Well that's awkward and weird. Haha oh man that turkey imagery. I swear this movie has no chill. See I don't this guy gets that some things aren't shared with others. Oh that was an interesting reaction. This girl is quite the adventurous one. Her choice in girls kind of sucks in my opinion. I hope you learned from this that sometimes you should answer the call. Apparently she has no caution for safety either. This movie really does try its best to make you sick. Thank God for my strong stomach. I swear the fantasy aspects here are kind of funny sometimes. Are you kidding me with that?? Yeah these friends are way too close. So that was the reason then. I hope it didn't happen because that would suck for the nurse lol. Eww come on this movie will show that, but not the other! Oh no the music thrown in with this makes it all the more disgusting. Also that was probably the most graphic thing this movie has shown. Well I know where this is going. Ahh God! I knew the mom was messed up, but damn that was pretty bad. Well I guess love can happen in many situations. Oh this credits song! The acting is good. It's definitely unique, but it is very uncomfortable to watch even alone. I definitely couldn't watch it again.

Krampus (2015) review

Posted : 8 years, 9 months ago on 28 February 2016 01:33 (A review of Krampus (2015))

I've been wanting to watch this for quite some time. I love mix genres and this looks like one of the better ones. It has a decent comedy cast and it will be interesting to see them in a horror film. Michael Dougherty has had hit or misses. X-Men 2 was alright and Trick' r Treat (which he directed as well) was awesome. While Superman Returns and Urban Legends Bloody Mary sucked. I haven't seen any of Todd Casey's stuff. It looks like he is mostly known for comic related stuff. Also this is Zach Shields only writing credit so far. The one sad thing is this is PG-13. Hopefully they work well with it though. Pretty amusing start with the Christmas mob rush. Looks like Santa was a creeper lol. So what's the point of Grandma speaking German is it to show how in depth in German lore they are? I like the whole typical dysfunctional family scenario that gives it that dramedy aspect. Okay so why is the kid translating to his mother when she should already know? Yeah just speak English because it's just awkward. Krampus is one huge monster! No not the DHL guy lol! Well I was not expecting that! They really get to business here damn. The atmosphere is quite creepy and keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering. Well she probably knew it was only a matter of time. No don't do it! Ahh that's just not right, but also kind of hilarious. Finally Grandma! Oh nice a little claymation story put in like old Christmas films. Really going back to speaking German again. I guess they did it like that so we understood her story as she said it. I have to admit that's a bit annoying and silly. The toy thing reminds me a bit of Nightmare Before Christmas. Yeah that is pretty disturbing! Lol these little mischievous guys are hilarious. Wow that was intense. Huh some people will surprise you. Are they the outcast elves Santa didn't want? That was different, but made sense if you think about it. I wonder how they all really look. Aww man that was insane. Dude is wheels off! That ending was excellent. I did kind of figure it was something other than a dream though or at least I hoped. I'm glad it wasn't a dream and that they decided to go the darker route. Man I am highly satisfied that I finally watched this. It's fun, disturbing, creepy, and keeps you hooked. The only gripe I had really was with Grandma not knowing which language she wanted to stick with. It's a family film to a certain extent. I wouldn't recommend it for kids under 12 unless they understand films like this are fiction. I would definitely watch again!
