About Time review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 26 February 2014 08:26 (A review of About Time)

I thoroughly enjoyed this rom-com with a touch of sci-fi. The cast is amazing and have really good chemisty together. With a cast that includes Rachel McAdams, Domhnall Gleeson, Bill Nighy, Margot Robbie it ought to be good. It even has cameos from Richard E. Grant and Richard Griffiths in his last role. The characters are eccentric and colorful such as Uncle D and Kit Kat. The story is bittersweet and keeps you interested from start to finish. Some moments are rather depressing while others are extremely uplifting. This is the first movie where I actually like Bill Nighy as I usually think he is a rather dry and boring actor. This movie has so much heart in it I find that it could be hard for anyone to just downright hate it. I love the touching family scenes especially with the Dad and the main character. The ending is bittersweet and it will probably have several people in tears by the end. It's sort of a father/son movie, but I would lean more toward a date movie with your girlfriend or wife. Either way would work in my opinion.

Star Wars: Threads of Destiny review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 26 February 2014 07:17 (A review of Star Wars: Threads of Destiny)

There are several problems with this garbage. 1. It is a Star Wars related film most likely made by fans, but for some reason it has been included on IMDB. 2. The CGI is extremely awful and low budget. It looks like a freaking 90s video game cutscene! 3. The director makes a lot of errors including calling a padawan an apprentice which is only what the Sith call them! 4. This is way too long running around a little over an hour and forty-five minutes. It shouldn't even exist let alone be a "fan film" so why does it have to be feature length. 5. If this is a fan film why are they so ignorant about how the Jedi/Sith system works? 6. If you are going to make a fan film that actually has copyrighted written all over the scroll and Star Wars label why not throw in characters like C-3PO or R2-D2 in it? I mean I know it is 94 years in the future, but those two should at least show up. I mean they are robots for Pete's sake it's not like they are dead. 7. It is soooo boring and I mean like really boring. Go watch the grass grow or paint dry that would be more satisfying than this uber backyard shit. 8. Do not even get me started on the acting. They act worse than Jar Jar and Hayden Christensen's monotone voice in Attack of the Clones. 9. Why the hell does the main character have the same hair style as Attack of the Clones Anakin? Why does he even sound like Anakin? 10. The biggest problems of all are: It has absolutely nothing in it that catches your attention. The characters are cardboard cutouts of Dumpster Wars characters that probably vagrants created! There is barely any action and when there is it is poorly directed and choreographed. Who on God's Earth thought this was a good idea to do? *Facepalm* Avoid! Lest you want to have your eyes and ears bleed.

Dallas Buyers Club review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 26 February 2014 03:06 (A review of Dallas Buyers Club)

Dallas Buyers Club may be a homophobes nightmare seeing as if you don't actually watch it you might think it is this years Brokeback Mountain. Well it isn't while it does have several gay themes and is about AIDS it deals with a person of straight orientation dealing with it in times when it was still thought that homosexuals were the only ones with the disease. It also deals with medical law and treatment of people with AIDS/HIV and ways to treat them better than the hospitals could. It also helps that the cast is amazing with Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, Jared Leto, Steve Zahn, Denis O'Hare, and Dallas Roberts. The actors really worked hard to make this a great picture of the sad realness that was going on in those times. In my opinion Jared Leto's performance as Rayon was remarkable and probably the best of the movie. This movie was very well made. I definitely say that this is a must see even for the homophobic pool. I feel that the content could really speak to everyone. You shouldn't discriminate someone for any reason because you never know what will happen and how some things could also turn out to have an affect on you as well.

Crazy Heart review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 26 February 2014 02:55 (A review of Crazy Heart)

I'm not really a big fan of country, but this was the only thing that I hadn't watch on the plane home from Ethiopia. Jeff Bridges, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Colin Farrell, and Robert Duvall star in this drunken film that needs to sober up. I am sure to many people this movie is pretty good, but I just couldn't get into it. Too much country music for my taste. The acting is great don't get me wrong, but if you aren't into country this definitely isn't for you. Yeah I know you will say why did you watch something that doesn't interest you. I would say you are absolutely right, but I love to watch movies even if I think it will be horrid. I do so just because of a thing called hope. I am hoping that maybe I will just so happen to find something interesting in it that I wouldn't have found out if I didn't at least give it a shot. It's kind of like watching Walk the Line or listening to Johnny Cash. I love Johnny Cash because he is good at what he does and makes his songs fun. I hate country music, but he makes it interesting to me. This film however didn't do for me what Johnny Cash does for me. It wasn't interesting to me. The only part of the plot that was interesting is that he is a major drunkard which you could use any variation of musician or out of work actor who just does signings at comic conventions and would be much more interesting to me. If you like country music and Jeff Bridges you would really enjoy this I think. If not then this won't be your cup of tea and you should avoid it.

Man of Tai Chi review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 26 February 2014 02:42 (A review of Man of Tai Chi)

"You owe me a life!" Is the tag line for this movie as it is used at least 3-4 times by Keanu Reeves. This movie is a sad attempt at a movie directed by Keanu Reeves. It is super cheesy and Keanu Reeves is as hilariously awful on-screen as he is off-screen. Tiger Chen plays a fictional version of himself and is probably the only interest character in this. Keanu Reeves is not believable as a villian. His acting makes him as a villain kind of seems like Neo trying to act like a villainous Morpheus. The fight scenes are pretty cool which makes this a little enjoyable to watch. Take out the cheesy one-liners and replace Keanu Reeves with someone who can actually act and this would have been a much better movie. It isn't too bad, but it is a bit amateur. It could have been much better seeing as Keanu Reeves does a lot in this genre. Come on Keanu Reeves you have to take notes from good actors trying to direct like Ben Affleck!

Flu review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 26 February 2014 02:36 (A review of Flu)

I love South Korean cinema a lot and this simple titled epidemic movie keeps my love strong. The story is intense and interesting. The characters are intriguing and have good chemistry with each other. The government is always the real danger in these kinds of movies and that's how it should be. Nobody asked to get infected. Nobody signed up for an infection. You shouldn't end lives just because you are scared of something. This was a really good movie with great acting and some excellent cinematography. Check it out and you won't be sorry.

3 Days To Kill review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 26 February 2014 02:02 (A review of 3 Days To Kill )

I have liked McG's movies except I haven't seen We Are Marshall yet and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle could have been better. This does have a good cast including Kevin Costner, Connie Nielsen, Richard Sammel, Hailee Steinfeld, and Amber Heard. Hailee Steinfeld is really trying to make her name big with this, Ender's Game, and the remakes of True Grit as well as Romeo and Juliet. So Pa Kent who had faked his death in Man of Steel plays Jason Bourne older and much less agile than he used to be and we find out he has a daughter who just so happens to be Juliet who apparently is an immortal and has been involved in crazy western action from the 1800s and lives in a science fiction future where aliens have destroyed much of Earth. That probably sounds completely ridiculous, but hey that is much better than what I watched. This movie is kind of boring even with the fight scenes and the sometimes funny humor. Ah I just realized who Kevin Costner sounds like in this none other than Liam Neeson. Is he trying to sound like him or is it just how he is coming off on me? Soccer came before American Football therefor making what he said about American Football being real football was invalid. Also I am pretty sure nobody can learn to ride a bike THAT fast right? Anyways this was an interesting concept, but I don't think it was executed to its fullest. The ending was a bit cheesy. It wasn't bad though. I'd say a one time watch if you catch it on television.

The Seasoning House review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 26 February 2014 12:03 (A review of The Seasoning House)

Rosie Day and Sean Pertwee star in this disturbing look at prostitution during a time of war. The story is pretty interesting, but it is definitely not for those who have weak stomachs. Sean Pertwee is excellent as the villainous squad leader as well as Rosie Day as the mute heroine. There are many scenes that are sad and messed up, but the acting is great. It isn't a masterpiece, but it is a good one time watch.

Thor: The Dark World review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 25 February 2014 10:55 (A review of Thor: The Dark World)

Thor can do no wrong in my opinion. The comedy, the action, and the characters are all well rounded. I loved the cameos in this as well. All of the cast returns in this while Christopher Eccleston is included as the villain and Alice Krige shows up for a small role. I didn't even realize it, but even Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is in this in two different villain roles. Also I like seeing Chris O'Dowd even though he wasn't really important to the whole story. My favorite character of course will always be Loki and second would be Heimdall. There are a lot of cool twists in this sequel as well. As usual you should always stay after the credits for Marvel films as this one gives you quite the treat.

Open Grave review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 25 February 2014 10:44 (A review of Open Grave)

I though this was amazing. I loved these kinds of epidemic style movies. The acting was great from the whole cast even the new to big screen actors. The story was interesting and kept you hooked from beginning to end. The twists were well executed and good. I highly recommend this. Not much else I can say.
