Justin and the Knights of Valour review

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 27 February 2014 05:10 (A review of Justin and the Knights of Valour)

This movie is clearly underrated. It has an amazing voice cast and the animation isn't bad for something you probably didn't even realize existed. This movie is presented by Antonio Banderas who is finally making a return to film after a long hiatus. He also plays a bit part in this as a wannabe knight.

The characters are pretty interesting and have some quirks to them. The voice actors who play them are some really amazing choices which include James Cosmo, Charles Dance, Freddie Highmore, Saoirse Ronan, Rupert Everett, Olivia Williams, and Mark Strong as you guessed it the villain. There is even an adorable fat alligator forced to be pretend to be something it isn't.

There are some pretty cool fight scenes. There is a good amount of comedy mixed with a coming of age sort of story. I personally thought this was really enjoyable. At least good for a one time watch as a family or good for kids to enjoy when Mom and Dad have to work. Although some of it can be a little tense. I guess it depends on the parent really. Anyways check it out for yourself. Reviews are here as suggestions not guidelines.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues review

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 27 February 2014 04:51 (A review of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues)

Anchorman 2 is way better than the first one. They even throw a bit of supernatural dorkiness into this which is really cheesy, but I actually thought it was funny. To be honest I didn't even really like the first one except for Brick Tamland and the awesome cameos. I really do not like Will Ferrell's man-child acting persona. I find it rather aggravating and stupid. There are way better actors that do man-child way better. There are however a few scenes in this in which I did laugh with him in it.

Steve Carell is one of my favorite comedic actors and makes Anchorman truly worth the time. In fact I wouldn't mind seeing them make a spin-off with Brick Tamland as the lead. He is just one of the best supporting characters in film and steals the scene whenever he shows up. I think the funniest part with him was the funeral scene, but then again it is hard to choose.

I love Meagan Good and have had a crush on her since I saw her in You Got Served. She is gorgeous and I think she is an underrated actress as well. She has the potential to be a great actress as she shows here that she can do comedy to and not just stick to one genre.

The addition of James Marsden, Harrison Ford, and Kristen Wiig was well played. I didn't expect that Harrison Ford would do something this goofy and ridiculous, but I just didn't realize how funny this would actually be. Kristen Wiig is not my favorite actress or one I would even consider particularly good, but her character is adorable. Although her and Brick reminded me of Alan and Melissa McCarthy's character in The Hangover:Part III. James Marsden is hilarious in this and shows he still has some good acting chops.

I do wish that Christina Applegate had more on-screen time. Also I kind of thought Dylan Baker's character was kind of lame. As for Anchorman veterans Paul Rudd and David Koechner, eh I am indifferent for those two.

The cameos are what make Anchorman movies better. This one has so many cameos that is why I thought it was better and fun to watch. I think my favorite of the cameos would be Liam Neeson, Will Smith, Jim Carrey, Tina Fey, and Sacha Baron Cohen. There are also several other unexpected cameos such as Drake, Kirsten Dunst, Marion Cotillard, Amy Poehler, John C. Reilly, Kanye West, and Vince Vaughn (Again)

All in all I think this is a must see for fans of the first Ron Bergundy, Brick Tamland, or someone who wants to see some hilariously unexpected cameos.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug review

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 27 February 2014 04:27 (A review of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug)

I love Peter Jackson movies especially the Lord of The Rings saga. There are many things I really don't like though about The Hobbit prequels. One such reason is that prequels means plural as in there are 3 freaking movies from one book! If The Lord of The Rings can stick to being each book as one movie then why the hell couldn't The Hobbit just have been one movie as well? The big issue with the thought of splitting an easily one movie adaptation into three parts is for financial gain. He doesn't care about the quality of the movies he cares about the quantity. Leaving you guessing what next is what makes you pay to see the next film. He counts on that. Now don't get me wrong this one is probably my favorite of the saga, but the first one was pretty Plain Jane if you ask me.

Another Reason why The Hobbit is that since there are three movies and the book doesn't contain enough to actually be worthy of three movies it adds a lot of filler. Now don't get me wrong filler can be good, but sometimes in can be silly and unnecessary. We want to see action at least. Some filler is boring dialogue scenes that aren't very interesting and in fact are kind of yawn inducing at points.

One bone I have to pick with this addition in the saga is that I need more Gollum. Gollum is the coolest character of the saga and he is freaking hilarious. I am sure that has a lot to do with Andy Serkis being a total amazing badass. He is the heart of these movies!

Benedict Cumberbatch is truly an amazing actor even as little as his voice can cause chills down your spine. Smaug is one of the coolest dragons that has been on the big screen. He is highly intelligent and very intriguing to watch in action. If I had to die by a dragon I would definitely choose Smaug!

Bilbo Baggins I think is much more interesting to watch than Frodo was. The main reason why is simply that Martin Freeman is a much better actor than Elijah Wood. Also Bilbo was the first Hobbit to go on adventure which makes him a bit more interesting as he is discovering the world for the first time out of any Hobbit. Frodo pretty much plays follow the leader like his father did.

The additions of Luke Evans, Evangeline Lilly, and Lee Pace were smart choices. They are all good actors and are absolutely wonderful in this. Lee and Evangeline definitely pull of the looks of elves. The characters themselves are intriguing and probably have more to them than what we see in this segment.

I loved that Orlando Bloom and Cate Blanchett showed up on this. It was good to see more ties with the old films. Also who doesn't like Legolas. It was nice to see how Legolas used to be before Lord of the Rings. It was true to the book in my opinion. Also he was a complete badass for sure.

Gandalf didn't do much for me in this one to be blunt. I just didn't care for him this time around. He had very few interesting scenes. To be honest Gandalf isn't really one of my favorite characters. Yeah he has some cool scenes sometimes, but he doesn't spark that much for me. Although I think Ian McKellen plays the part perfectly. Maybe it's just the way the character is for me.

Anyways I truly loved this segment in the Rings saga. It was quite enjoyable and much more entertaining than the previous film. The cliffhanger leaves hope that the last of the trilogy should rock this world. Let's cross our fingers. Also Stephen Colbert makes a cameo.

Saving Mr. Banks review

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 27 February 2014 03:51 (A review of Saving Mr. Banks)

So this is a dramatization that is based on what actually happened with P.L. Travers. Of course this movie ends on a happy note. That's what Disney does. The movie is touching and heartfelt. The acting is great and the "characters" are very interesting. It was a new idea to watch a Disney movie that involved the making of another Disney movie. I enjoyed the music in this as well. I thought the music was rather uplifting. The cast is pretty good which includes Emma Thompson, Tom Hanks, Colin Farrell, Paul Giamatti, Bradley Whitford, B.J. Novak, Jason Schwartzman, Kathy Baker, and Rachel Griffiths. I think it's a good spin on what Disney usually does with their movies.

A Madea Christmas review

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 27 February 2014 12:45 (A review of A Madea Christmas)

I am glad I don't follow other people's reviews. Yes sometimes they are spot on and sometimes they aren't. Anyways I actually watched this with my wife and we thought it was actually pretty funny. I laughed a lot in this film and I usually enjoy Madea movies anyways. I guess one of the biggest reason I liked this would be that it's lead is in a interracial marriage like me so I sort of Identify with the movie. The only difference is my wife is from another country and it's her dad I am worried about not the mom. Larry the Cable guy is a bit over the top with sexual jokes, but it doesn't take away from enjoying this in my opinion. Tika Sumpter is such a beautiful woman and she does good in this. Chad Michael Murray, Kathy Najimy (from Hocus Pocus!!!), and Anna Maria Horsford (from the Friday trilogy where she is best) all star in this as well. I guess it won't be everyone's kind of movie. I would suggest this to hardcore Madea fans or people who are struggling with families because of their beliefs on interracial marriage. It isn't the worst Madea in my opinion anyways.

American Hustle review

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 27 February 2014 12:34 (A review of American Hustle)

This was amazing and had remarkable performances. Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner had the most interesting and well acted characters in my opinion. It had a nice amount of comedy and keeps you hooked through the entirety of the runtime. Louis C.K. was hilarious as the boss of Bradley Cooper's Richie. Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence were deliciously beautiful. I loved the seen where Jennifer Lawrence is lip syncing. I didn't even know Michael Pena and Robert De Niro would be in this. I love a movie that does good twists and does them well. Pretty interesting and I would say it is definitely worth the watch.

The Human Race review

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 26 February 2014 11:34 (A review of The Human Race)

This is a really well made low budget horror film. It is kind of on a similar fashion to Battle Royale and such like films with a different take. None of the cast is really recognizable, but it doesn't matter. I think these unknowns did pretty well with what they had to give. I also thought that the deaf girl was absolutely beautiful. I am sure not everyone will get a kick out of this as much as I did, but I think it is quite the hidden gem. It has tons of truly interesting and unique characters. A few characters would be a mute woman and man, an amputee, a young girl who has suffered much loss, and old man, two Asian kids who don't speak English, a pregnant woman, a priest, a marathon guy, and many more. The plot is unusual and a crazy which makes it all the more fun. There is a good amount of blood and gore as well. Some scenes are a bit shocking and can be uneasy so I suggest if you have a weak stomach avoid this or there could be problems for you. I love the twist at the end and thought it was a little cheesy, but really cool. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I assure you it can be rather enjoyable if given the chance.

Lone Survivor review

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 26 February 2014 11:11 (A review of Lone Survivor)

I think Mark Wahlberg choice well with this one. He is at his pique here in my opinion. The performances of Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster, and Ali Suliman are all jawdropping and powerful as well. The cast also includes Eric Bana, Alexander Ludwig, and Jerry Ferrara in limited but well acted roles. This movie is very much a man's movie. I always liked war movies and true stories are even more interesting especially when you imagine that people actually had to deal with this in real life! The action is gruesome and intense pretty much from start to finish. These guys were tough and I don't know if how many times they were shot was part of the truth of this movie or not but damn! Anyways I highly recommend this movie if you want to watch a badass war movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Lovelace review

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 26 February 2014 11:02 (A review of Lovelace)

So we get to see how the legendary porn movie Deepthroat was made starring a pretty amazing cast including Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard, Sharon Stone (Although to me I couldn't actually tell it was her at until I saw the cast), Robert Patrick, Juno Temple, Chris Noth, Bobby Cannavale, Hank Azaria, Adam Brody, Chloe Sevigny, James Franco, and Wes Bentley. Amanda Seyfried is titular and jawdropping in this as well as showing how well she can act (even acting good pretending that she can't act in scenes where she is making Deepthroat). In fact the acting in this is generally on a high note except for maybe the addition of Eric Roberts. I didn't realize how traumatizing this point of Linda Lovelace's life was until I saw this movie. In fact I haven't even seen Deepthroat as I haven't had the time to hunt a copy down or find one online. This movie is pretty deep (pun intended) and it definitely strikes a few points. There is also a lot of boobage from Amanda Seyfried which is just enough to put an extra star or two on the rating. It is entertaining and keeps you interested, but it isn't really a masterpiece. Also I would avoid watching this with anyone as I think it would be kind of awkward. Check it out if you can it is worth a watch in my opinion especially if you have a crush on Ms. Seyfried.

Last Vegas review

Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 26 February 2014 10:46 (A review of Last Vegas)

Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Kline play a bunch of old farts in this film. It also stars Mary Steenburgen who I think is still drop dead gorgeous even in her age, Jerry Ferrara who is hilarious, Roger Bart, Romany Malco, with a bit part from Michael Ealy, and a goofy cameo from 50 Cent and the Redfoo and Shufflebot from LMFAO. I am not too sure who the target audience of this movie. First of all if it was targeted to an audience of around 60 to 70 year old men would they even know or understand who 50 Cent is or even LMFAO? Is it for young adults because I am pretty sure with most people my age who were born in the Hollywood of now wouldn't know who Kevin Kline or Michael Douglas is unfortunately sad yet true. Is it for people with older male family members who are going through end-life crisis? That is possible I suppose, but sounds pretty lame so probably not. Can you tell me what demographic this movie is trying to please? The acting is decent and there are a few moments that are funny, but most of the time it is kind of awkward to watch. It wasn't good and it wasn't bad. To me it was just there. I wouldn't really recommend this to anybody's to watch lists. It can be either a hit or miss I think.
