I have to admit Uwe Boll is one of the worst directors of all time. He ruins a lot of video game movies and he typically has terrible or just average actors in his movies. That being said I've actually gotten a kick out of these movies. I have a sick mind when it comes to fictional violence like this. It's very similar to his former movie Postal, but it's so much more "fun". I even liked a similar movie he did called Assault on Wall Street. Uwe Boll takes on both writing and directing once again here. Brendan Fletcher also co-writes as he did with the previous film. Now this Uwe Boll ranted in a video that no one would crowdfund him and instead all we care about is big Hollywood films. So he decided to quit filmmaking. That was for this movie and some other one. He still ended up finishing this one and has gotten it distributed. Will he actually stay away from film? Only time will tell. I do find it a bit silly what he has said in a recent interview about this "final" trilogy.
"I wanted to create another Hannibal Lector and I did that with Bill Williamson."
I mean come on I know I like these movies, but any comparison to the infamous Hannibal Lector is an obscene joke. The only comparison that he states is he is nice and intelligent, but he is also very evil. There is a lot more to it than that. They couldn't be any more different.
"In the first Rampage film, you have no clue how it all fits together till the end, similar to the Usual Suspects."
No way is it in any way as cool or as insanely surprising as the Usual Suspects. That was a brilliant movie from beginning to end. Sure there is a good twist, but to say it's on a legendary level as the aforementioned movie is just hogwash.
Now onto the film in question. There doesn't seem to be much of a cast. At least if there are others the full cast list hasn't been updated on IMDB yet. I'm sure there are a few of his usuals here though. It looks like because they didn't get all the funds they wanted they ended up using some previous footage and reusing shots. That montage of news stories is kind of haunting. He is right I am focusing on the body count lol. Of course some things he says may be right. His actions are unwarranted though. He is a prime example of what he is talking about too. The detectives are wrong about his kill count in part one by a lot. There seems to be a lot of social commentary on what is going on in our society lately in these movies especially here. It's an interesting thing to see. This entry into the trilogy is not as violent as the first two. The first one was just a movie version of a massacre. The second one was a little more balanced. This one however seems to rely on building a story and possibly the only real action will be the final showdown. The thing about doing it like that is that you need a good director/writer. Uwe Boll is not the man for the job. Besides that the acting isn't all that great, but it's not the worst either. Brendan Fletcher is always a decent actor though, but the only other half-way decent actor is Steve Baran as Molokai. Haha Uwe Boll managed to put his rant about Hollywood films into the character of Bill! The showdown is not as spectacular as I was hoping for. That's probably because of the budget. The music though is entertaining and the battle is still kind of interesting. The ending stuff was all actually pretty interesting and well done. That actress who played the reporter was terrible though. Well because of the ending I liked this almost as much as the first two. Brendan Fletcher needs to do more movies with better directors to really showcase his talents. I'm sure if Uwe Boll had raised what he needed this may have been my favorite. Anyways as a part of the series it was worth the watch. This trilogy is the best of his movies whereas I would never recommend any of his other work. If you liked the first two I would say give it a shot.

Jason Bourne review
Posted : 8 years, 2 months ago on 5 September 2016 04:20 (A review of Jason Bourne)So the Bourne saga continues with the return of Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. Even Paul Greengrass has returned to write and direct. This is the writing debut for Christopher Rouse. Too bad Jeremy Renner isn't also in this. I really like that Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, and Riz Ahmed have joined in this sequel. Ah it starts off with a little bit of a flashback which definitely works considering how long it has been since even the third film. The ending was good and fitting. While it's great seeing Jason Bourne again the action is much different. There is nothing wrong with it of course, but he isn't as fluid as he used to be. Maybe it's part of aging. Tommy Lee Jones and Vincent Cassel were amazing as usual. I simply adore Alicia Vikander and thought she was fantastic. There were some great moments I didn't expect to happen the way they did. It's not really a twist filled movie or at least I thought things were pretty clear. The second car chase was insane and probably one of the cooler action scenes of the whole thing. Besides the whole conspiracy scenario it didn't feel a whole lot like the first three. I do think it was a pretty good entry in the series though. It's definitely worth a watch.

The Secret Life of Pets review
Posted : 8 years, 2 months ago on 3 September 2016 08:15 (A review of The Secret Life of Pets)So there are two movies that came out this year that are very much like Toy Story. Sausage Party (which takes food and makes them living creatures and is also only for adults) and this (which gives animals personalities and secret lives other than barking and such). I have been wanting to see both, but this is the first one I have managed to see. It has a pretty good cast of which I wouldn't have expected a few of them in. Chris Renaud of the Lorax and Despicable Me films co-directs this. The only other film I have seen by Yarrow Cheney is a Minion short called Puppy. Most of the writers have all done work with Chris Renaud before with The Lorax and Despicable Me movies. Simon Rich is the only one who hasn't been involved before as he is only known for writing Inside Out. Ah that opening is just adorable. It kind of reminds me of Oliver & Company except much happier. The montage is amusing and fun. That has to be one of the most interesting looking pigs for sure. I loved the ending. It was so heartwarming and beautiful. Make sure to watch for the midcredits as there is an extra scene there. There are some great gags and jokes here. I liked that they kept the personalities of the animals instead of like making them just act like that when their owners are around. All the characters were good and fun. My favorites though were Snowball, Tiberius, and Leonard. I never would have expected Kevin Hart to be a villain! He was definitely a scene stealer. Looks like they managed to have a dash of Sausage Party added in with that sausage factory scene. They even managed to make it a little disturbing. This was such an adorable story. Definitely a good one for kids or the family.

The Neon Demon review
Posted : 8 years, 2 months ago on 1 September 2016 10:01 (A review of The Neon Demon)We were playing this at my theater. I remember going to clean multiple times near the end and it's definitely a weird ending when you have no idea what's going on. There is this annoying old man nobody likes who always comes to my theater. He said he watched this and tried watching the Shallows. He actually thought the PG-13 shark movie was worse than a movie about Cannibalistic Necrophilia loving super models. Nicolas Winding Refn is quite the intriguing director with such works as Bronson, Drive, and Only God Forgives. It's a love or hate sort of thing with him too. Personally I really enjoy what I've seen of his before. This is the only movie work by the other writers here. The opening credits take awhile to get to the story. The opening shot is interesting and creepy, but it's also beautiful in a way. That definitely wouldn't be something anyone would want to come home to. It's quite an interesting palate of colors that make this visually stunning. It takes the world of being a supermodel and escalates it's terrors. The characters were all interesting and unique. Specifically the four female leads were the best. Elle Fanning is such a gorgeous young lady and she is easily one of the best things about this film. Jena Malone was a very interesting character with multiple things that catch your attention. Bella Heathcote played the typical plastic loving model. Of course she is actually gorgeous. She plays unlikable very well considering she usually plays the nice girl. Abbey Lee was so unique looking. I really liked her look near the end. She is not as deep as the other girls, but it was interesting to see what they did with her. What a character Keanu Reeves plays. Keanu Reeves and Desmond Harrington were creepy, but they played their parts pretty well. Karl Glusman is such a bland actor. He has moments in his acting that are fine, but overall he is boring. I really would have loved more Christina Hendricks, but they really only gave her what is virtually a cameo. I love the symbolism here. This is one of those horror movies that feels more like a suspenseful drama until late into it's storytelling. There are a few hints of it throughout, but really nothing too major. It has a few moments that are pretty disturbing thematically and visually. It's a beautiful movie with great performances, but the overall storytelling can be a bit underwhelming at times. I found myself often bored with what was happening as the base story was fairly generic. There are some definite plot holes that could have been explored more. I feel like so much went unanswered or fixed. On an artistic point of view this is a wonderful piece of work. As for an actual movie I felt it lacked a lot. There are some really disturbing moments closer to the end. I wouldn't recommend them for the weak stomached. That being said I thought it was a decent watch. If you want to decipher the meaning of what goes on in this I would recommend it, but if you are looking for a simple watch this is not it.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows review
Posted : 8 years, 2 months ago on 30 August 2016 10:27 (A review of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows)I'm actually one of those people that thought the first one was actually pretty fun despite the flaws and Megan Fox. I never got around to watching this one until now though. It's kind of disappointing that Johnny Knoxville didn't return for this. I do think Stephen Amell is a cool choice for Casey Jones although it's disappointing not seeing the character's traditional hair. Dave Green doesn't have many films under his belt, but he is also known for Earth to Echo which I still plan to watch at some point. The writers from the previous film return again for this. I was really hoping that the hair was going to stay that way and then nope. Okay that Transformers reference was pretty funny and cool. I love that the truck is in this! It kind of seems like they reduced the turtles' heights which is a good thing of course. It's awesome that they included Bebop, Rocksteady, and Krang here. Okay I am really digging Stephen Amell as Casey Jones! His comedy is on point here. Stephen Amell, Will Arnett, Gary Anthony Williams, and Sheamus were hilarious. Mikey and Raphael are my favorites of the turtles as usual. Leo doesn't seem to have a lot to do in this one probably because it isn't Johnny Knoxville this time around. I still think Megan Fox is a bit overrated, but she sure does look good in the first two outfits we see. Tyler Perry was kind of lame here. He felt like a dorky, low rent Neil deGrasse Tyson. Honestly I really enjoyed this about as much as the first one. The comedy is nice. The action is great. It seems to tone itself down a little bit seeing as it isn't Michael Bay, but there are definitely moments that he was probably involved in. I have been a fan of the Turtles ever since I was a kid and for me this hasn't brought any disappointment. The worst one I watched was the third of the previous series and the previous remake. If you liked the first one then this one is worth seeing as well.

The Blackburn Asylum review
Posted : 8 years, 2 months ago on 30 August 2016 05:21 (A review of The Blackburn Asylum)So to quench my thirst for carnage I came across this. It kind of looks like a mix of The Hills Have Eyes, Wrong Turn, and Thirteen Ghosts. I mean one of their characters is called 3Eyes. If that doesn't seem like a homage to Wrong Turn I don't know what is. Anyways it actually has some fairly familiar faces so that's a plus. Lauro Chartrand has made one other movie I have heard of, but this will be the first of his I've seen. This is the only movie written by Nastasha Baron so far. Now let's get this show on the road. Well that was just brutal. That decision was pretty dumb on that person's part. That is probably one of the creepiest gas station scenarios I've seen in horror films. The script and acting is a bit silly. Ah the typical horror rookie moves. Is this a homage to older films or is it trying to be it's own. Right now it just seems like a generic horror movie complete with constant bad decisions and cliche characters. Most of the characters aren't really all that likable except for Jade, the fifth wheel Shaun, and to an extent Luke (although he is growing on me). Now that right there is a good death scene! Just when I was beginning to get kind of bored. Well that's different and definitely creepy. Oh wow some friends! That was an interesting and unexpected ending. Okay these credits are hilarious "cast in order of death" and "they make sweet candy". So I would have liked a bit more carnage than we get. There are a few stabbings here and there that were just kind of simple. A few other types of kills weren't caused by wounds. There was only really one or two kills that were even interesting. It's not what I was expecting it to be, but it still had some good bits about it. If they do a sequel I'm curious how it will end up.

Kalifornia review
Posted : 8 years, 2 months ago on 29 August 2016 08:07 (A review of Kalifornia)I have been curious about this movie for some time, but I am just now finding a chance to watch it. It's free on Amazon Prime so I figured why not go ahead and finally watch it. I have heard some good things about. Out of the movies from Dominic Sena the only one I have enjoyed so far was Whiteout. I haven't seen Swordfish yet by the way. This is the only writing credit for Stephen Levy. Tim Metcalfe has written the Revenge of the Nerds series, Fright Night Part 2, and Haunting in Connecticut (which was the best of his work). There isn't a whole lot of well known actors here surprisingly. I think this is one of the first movies where Brad Pitt plays a villain. The opening was interesting. Juliette Lewis is so adorable. I find her so oddly attractive. Her character here kind of reminds me of a mix of Natural Born Killers and From Dusk Till Dawn. Michelle Forbes' hair is just so annoying to look at. That waitress is how I feel sometimes, but I would have been happy with that response. What exactly was the thing he was using in the bathroom? I think the reveal for the characters came a bit quickly. Haha he said idget! Wow that was pretty sad. Not cool man at all. That ending was the right fit for this movie. The acting was a bit silly at times, but I thought the characters were all pretty likable. My least favorite though was Michelle Forbes as Carrie. I just didn't care for her through most of the film. I thought the name Early Grayce was pretty cool and original. I wish it was a little more brutal. I mean for a movie with a serial killer it was pretty tame. What we did see was intense though. That being said this is my favorite work of Dominic Sena so far. I think it's worth a watch.

The Conjuring 2 review
Posted : 8 years, 2 months ago on 28 August 2016 10:38 (A review of The Conjuring 2)So I finally have the chance to check this sequel out. I have heard it's pretty good. Will it be as good as the first one is what I wonder. Annabelle was such a fail so I mean this has to be way better than that. I mean James Wan is directing this so that's a huge plus. His only fail was the first Insidious which I absolutely hated. David Johnson who wrote Wrath of the Titans and Orphan joins the writing crew. His worst work was the Red Riding Hood movie that was done like Twilight. Carey and Chad Hayes return from writing the first film. Some of their other work includes Whiteout and The Reaping. A few of the characters from the first one return again here. Now on to the movie. I knew it! That's actually a pretty cool idea to include that within this story. That is a creative and creepy way of reimagining that. What a great way to open this movie! Good lord this was one creepy story. In fact it's probably one of the best in awhile. The jump scares got me a few times. The sense of impeding dread kept me on the edge of my seat. The real scares really got me at some points. I nearly went to sleep with the lights on. I normally don't get chilled by these kinds of movies if that tells you anything. The ghosts were especially creepy looking. I do wish that these types of movies had some other things besides just scares, but this one worked very well without blood and gore. I loved all the warm little moments that happened throughout the chaos of the haunting. The acting was great of course. I always adore Vera Farmiga. I also think Patrick Wilson is an under utilized actor. I'm just glad there hasn't been Lin Shaye in this series. I liked that they added the real recordings and pictures during the credits and gave some details of the events. The one thing about hauntings is that you can never know how real it is until it happens to you. Sure there are many falsities considering they didn't have much to do with the case, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. I would definitely recommend checking this one out for the frights and entertainment. It was totally worth it.

Ice Age: Collision Course review
Posted : 8 years, 3 months ago on 27 August 2016 09:31 (A review of Ice Age: Collision Course)Just when you think this series is done they come out with another sequel pretty much out of nowhere. I don't have a problem with that of course as I have enjoyed all the previous films. A lot of the actors return again with a few who were replaced here and there. Mike Thurmeier has returned once again from the last two films as well as recent shorts. This is the first time Galen T. Chu has directed a film of the main series after only writing the first one. Michael J. Wilson returns to write this after only being involved in the first one. Michael Berg once again returns to write this after only missing part two. Yoni Brenner returns after being only a part of part three and a few shorts. This is the first time Aubrey Solomon has been involved in the series. Anyways now it's time to see if this will be as enjoyable as the others have been. It starts out with a Scrat short of course. Who doesn't love that adorable little guy. Poor Sid always gets dealt a terrible hand. Oh Manny you are so lucky. Haha the grape juice effects though. Simon Pegg is awesome as always here with a really fun character. Max Greenfield is hilarious as a newcomer to the series. He has a good knack for voice overs and should definitely do them more often. The gags and jokes are pretty fun. There are a few jokes that are inappropriate here and there. Some of them can be a little edgy. I ended up enjoying this one just as much as the other ones. The new characters were great and the old characters were still interesting. The Neil deGrasse Tyson stuff was amusing. I think it's a fun one for the whole family. I really don't see what there is to hate about it honestly. If you've sort of grown up with the series I'm sure you will enjoy this one too.

Hard Target 2 review
Posted : 8 years, 3 months ago on 27 August 2016 02:48 (A review of Hard Target 2)I just got done finishing the first one. I watched the trailer for this and thought it looked like fun. It's a bit more in depth on the idea of the "game" that was in the first one. So besides not having any of the characters/actors from the first one I respect that similarity. It's not really an original idea of course. I'm not watching this for story though of course. I mean the main cast is actually surprisingly cool given that this is a direct to DVD sequel to a film that came out over 20 years ago. Roel Reinรฉ isn't as well known for making original films as he is known for making terrible to somewhat decent sequels to varying film series. Death Race 2, Death Race 3, and 12 Rounds 2 are probably his best sequel work. His worst though is Scorpion King 3 and Man With the Iron Fists 2. The rest are somewhere in between. This is the only film writing credit for both Matt Harvey and Dominic Morgan. George Huang has written a few other films of which I have never heard of though. I want this to be enjoyable, but well it's time to just watch it. Okay that opening wasn't as cheesy as the original, but they still managed to do the close up shot of the arrow. A small thing that I liked from the first that I didn't expect to see here. Those rounds seemed a little short. I'm pretty sure it was just meant to showcase his martial arts skills once again. Oh damn that was completely unexpected. I thought they were just rivals, but the fact they were friends added so much depth to that fatal blow. These fight scenes are a little brief, but they are still quite fun. It looks like Robert Knepper and Temuera Morrison are the Lance Henriksen and Arnold Vosloo of this one. That is an interesting mixture of people. I mean what the hell is a bullfighter doing in this scenario. Well it's definitely different. I will give them that. The set up is much different than the first one which I thought was interesting. Is that guy serious?! I'm surprised that didn't backfire on him. That reminds me of "Cool Guys Don't Look at Explosions". These motorcycles are insane. Oh damn that was brutal and unexpected. Wow they added the single shot in this as well! I was wondering when they would come in. That scene during the credits was useless. Also there was no cameo from Van Damme anywhere to be seen. Despite that I actually preferred this over the first one. The action was excellent which I think is a given when you have Scott Adkins. I thought everyone pulled their weight here even the actors I have never seen before. The bullfighter character surprised me for sure. It's definitely one of Roel Reinรฉ's best films in my opinion. I guess I went in not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. Just don't go looking for Van Damme and take this sequel for what it is. It's fun and action packed. I'd say check it out for sure.
