The Scorpion King 4: Quest for Power review
Posted : 10 years ago on 1 January 2015 06:06 (A review of The Scorpion King 4: Quest for Power)So they made a fourth installment to The Scorpion King spin-offs. I have to say I have no idea why I decided to watch this other than to see what else could be done to this series. This is the first time another actor reprised their role as the future villain of The Mummy franchise. There is such a mixture of talent here from UFC and WWE to bottom of the barrel actors and some who teeter totter in the middle. I wonder who they could get to be in the inevitable 5th installment. The CGI is horrible, the acting is god awful, the fight scenes are a bit pathetic, and there is so much corniness to the story and dialogue. It felt more like a medieval comedy than a historical based action film. Even more so when Barry Bostwick showed up. This was truly horrible with such a ridiculous mess of an ending. I mean the biggest names in the movie have the shortest amount of screen time. Most of the "bad guys" become randomly good at the end I guess. When will we see how he became THE Scorpion King. Anyways this movie was the worst thing to end of my December movie journey. What should I have expected though? Skip this one everyone.

The Drop review
Posted : 10 years ago on 31 December 2014 11:55 (A review of The Drop)The three main actors are the reason I was interested in this if nothing else. The premise is decent, but doesn't really sound like anything too special. There are a few great twists and turns I can't say I expected. The acting is pretty good as I expected. Violence isn't constant, but when it does happen it's quite brutal and intense. The ending was interesting and well done. I think the whole thing was pretty gripping. I never knew what to expect from each scene. There were times that I thought I knew what would happen, but things went different however slight from the expected. I wonder how much of this was actually a part of the short story it's based off of. Anyways I highly recommend checking this out it's a slow burner, but it keeps your attention.

Ask Me Anything review
Posted : 10 years ago on 31 December 2014 03:53 (A review of Ask Me Anything)I was intrigued by this for Brittany Robertson and Gia Mantegna for reasons. It seems also it has quite an interesting cast. Another thing that pulled me to this is the constant mention of a "crazy ending". I had to see that for myself. Also seeing as the director is the writer of "Untraceable" and "Underworld: Awakening" I don't think I should be surprised. I like that we actually get a stepfather here that isn't a disgusting freak. I think all the characters are really interesting and truly disturbed, but they are all so well portrayed. It felt a little bit like Juno meets Wild (The new Reese Witherspoon movie). The ending was quite unique and unusual. I thought it was really interesting and well done. Although my mind is going crazy with all that happened. It seemed like a typical story that is full of cliche, but stick through and you will be quite intrigued about how everything plays out. I was pleasantly surprised by this one.

Penguins of Madagascar review
Posted : 10 years ago on 30 December 2014 08:27 (A review of Penguins of Madagascar)I think the Penguins are one of the few things I found funny about the Madagascar movies. This happens to be directed by both the Madagascar director and a director of mostly short films. They even got a few cool additions to the cast for this like Benedict Cumberbatch. The penguins still got it. I liked the new additions to the Madagascar universe. I think Rico will always be my favorite Penguin though. It has its funny moments. One scene where he is calling the octopi names in particular is pretty clever and silly. There is a little extra during the credits. Overall it was a decent movie, but not really anything special. It's cute for the kids though. Also Ricardo is one odd villain oh I mean Dave.

Into the Woods review
Posted : 10 years ago on 30 December 2014 04:51 (A review of Into the Woods)This is another one I caught at the movie theater. I pretty much was excited to see it for Anna Kendrick and Johnny Depp. It also looked fairly interesting and even contains quite an interesting cast besides the aforementioned. The music is quite catchy and I think everyone sounded amazing. There was one song that would make adults uncomfortable (well I was anyways) given the subtext, but I'm sure the kids won't notice the creepy tone of it. I thought all the stories were quite interesting although I feel some didn't get much in detail. There were some really hilarious scenes particularly "Agony" the duet between the prince brothers. It even had some sad moments I didn't see coming since I never watched the play. I do think sad moments are a thing Disney adores so it really isn't all that surprising. The acting was quite good and silly in the best of ways. I thought it was really fun and definitely something I would watch again.

Spoilers Ahead
Posted : 10 years ago on 30 December 2014 04:33 (A review of State of Emergency)This was so bad I just leave it unblocked from spoilers...
So I love zombie films it's my favorite sub-genre of horror. So when I was hanging out with my brother and best friend we saw this was on Netflix so we gave it a shot. It started out promising, but it quickly spiraled downhill. They couldn't decide what kind of zombies they wanted to do. We had fast paced violent ones, one that talked (whereas none of the other ones do and it's only one brief scene), smart ones, and even an emotional one. Both the guys here are extremely stupid and constantly make piss poor decisions. One of the girls is smart, but she barely has a role here. The other girl is interesting, but is made to be quite useless for no real reason. The main guy who just lost his fiance as we are told through flashbacks falls in love with the single girl way too quickly. Why the hell did they show flashbacks to initiate his love for his fiance if they are just going to give him a new love interest?! I did think the zombie make-up was really well done and for low-budget I thought it looked decent. I found out after that this was directed by the same guys who did Disaster L.A. which is another zombie movie that was really lame. Also what really made me mad was that absolutely no one freaking died except for the fiance, but we don't even know the whole thing of what happened with that. If you like zombies then this will disappoint you. Go ahead and pass on this one.

The Interview review
Posted : 10 years ago on 30 December 2014 03:41 (A review of The Interview)I was really looking forward to see this since before all the controversy with Sony and North Korea. I loved This is the End and knew that this would be worth checking out. I also think Seth Rogen and James Franco are awesome together. I think all the craziness made me want to check this out even more. I thought Sony lost their minds by shutting it down. So I'm glad to see that they let go of their balls and just went ahead and posted it online. I honestly think everyone overreacted and that there are far worse movies out there than this involving real leaders. Okay so it starts out with this adorable little girl singing the most disturbed and messed up song and yet if there were no subtitles you would think it was beautiful. I actually thought the whole thing was quite hilarious and I found myself laughing out loud throughout the entire thing. I do think everything was taken way too seriously. This is satirical and shouldn't be taken as anything other than that. Wait a minute did Sony honeydick us all with all this mess lol. Anyways take it or leave, but I really enjoyed this. I would love if this were actually a TV show or something.

Dumb and Dumber To review
Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 26 December 2014 06:43 (A review of Dumb and Dumber To)So I remember seeing the first one some time ago and I guess I wanted to see where the journey continued. Okay so this is absolutely dumb as expected, but most of it is the kind of dumb that just isn't funny. There were a few scenes here and there that made me chuckle though. Some of twists were alright. I knew when I watched the trailer that this might not be worth watching and I was correct. After it was over I pretty much forgot most of the gags that happened in it. The characters had good chemistry and the acting was done well. It was a pretty disappointing watch. I recommend skipping this one.

Unbroken review
Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 26 December 2014 04:51 (A review of Unbroken)So this is Angelina Jolie's second film that I'm aware of. At first when I saw the teaser I assumed it was just a documentary, but when we got the full trailer I knew this was something I had to see immediately. Also that it was definitely not a documentary. Jack O'Connell is an amazing actor and this is definitely his best performance yet. I have never heard of Miyavi, but he was actually really awesome and vicious. There are several scenes that were really emotional and powerful. It had more to it than the previews lead you to believe. It's crazy how much people physically prepared for their roles. I thought the ending was pretty interesting and I liked all the facts that they put at the end. It was nice to see a World War II story that didn't deal with the Nazi part. It was truly inspirational and had me thinking about life in general. I highly recommend checking this out as soon as possible.

Goal of the Dead review
Posted : 10 years, 1 month ago on 24 December 2014 05:32 (A review of Goal of the Dead)I always like to see zombies in film especially when someone tries to do a new scenario I would otherwise not be very interested in. Benjamin Rocher directs the first part of this French zombie film and he is no stranger to this sub-genre. He also directed a pretty awesome film called The Horde. The acting here is nice and I enjoyed all the characters. I can see why this is considered a mixture of 28 Weeks Later and Shaun of the Dead. I thought it was an interesting idea that they split it into two parts like an actual soccer game. This is quite gory which I love and they even come up with a few original kills. I don't really like the whole vomiting thing the zombies do as it just looks ridiculous. I do like the vicious relentless zombies though. There are some good little twists and turns throughout. It has a few extra scenes during the credits. I actually really enjoyed this and thought it was pretty funny. If you like soccer and zombies you will probably enjoy this film.
