Selma review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 22 December 2014 05:48 (A review of Selma)

I watched this in a promo screening at my theater and the diversity of the people watching it next to each other was amazing. I think Martin Luther King Jr. made it possible to be able to do that and he would have been proud to see such a thing if he were still around. This was such a powerful movie. It's inspiring and intense. There are several moments where I found myself shaking my head in disgust at the ways people were treated back in the 60s. It reminded me a lot of the recent Ferguson nonsense. Some moments were so heart pounding and emotional I found myself on the verge of tears several times. David Oyelowo was amazing as MLK Jr. In fact the whole cast did an excellent job. There are also a lot of political points made in this that still pertain to the way our life in America is. I highly recommend checking this out when it's officially released.

Gallows Hill review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 21 December 2014 04:29 (A review of Gallows Hill)

Well I kind of wanted to see this because the trailer looked like fun. Then I saw the director was Victor Garcia whose movies usually suck. Peter Facinelli might actually be a vampire he looks like 30, but he is 41. It's actually pretty spooky and different. I thought it was somewhat original as well. I actually liked this as I had originally thought I would. The characters are interesting and the acting is pretty good. I thought the ending was messed up though. It had a few things here and there that didn't make much sense. It still wasn't a bad watch to say the least.

A Merry Friggin' Christmas review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 21 December 2014 01:19 (A review of A Merry Friggin' Christmas)

I have been wanting to see this solely for Robin Williams. I don't get why all his roles lately are grumpy old guys though. Nothing really crazy or interesting happens here. The acting was alright, but the characters were just kind of average. I really don't like Lauren Graham though so whenever she was onscreen I was annoyed. It's actually kind of boring with a very small amount of funny to it. I mean it's alright as a family comes together sort of movie other than that it was pretty disappointing.

Men, Women & Children review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 20 December 2014 08:31 (A review of Men, Women & Children)

I didn't know anything about this movie until I saw it at the theater I work at. The cast is a pretty interesting mixture and I've liked most of Jason Reitman's works so far so I decided to go ahead and watch it. Then it starts off with music playing from The Voyager in space where no sound should be heard so it's already lost points for that. So this is just another sexual comedy, but it involves internet and social medias. I kind of like when movies have the screen of someones phone pop up to show what's on it rather than making us stare at their screen. The acting is pretty good. I think Adam Sandler usually grows a beard for his more serious roles. We have several different stories here that are all interconnected. Some of which are pretty disturbing like the anorexia character and the mother/daughter who have an undesirable modeling website that neither understands the repercussions of. I didn't really like the way it ended. I think it sort of just ended when everything climaxed. I guess it made sense to the story, but it just wasn't the way I thought it should have been done. It was an interesting watch, but it could have been so much more.

The Guest review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 20 December 2014 03:12 (A review of The Guest)

I remember seeing the preview for this and thinking the premise looked interesting. Then I found out the director is horror genre regular Adam Wingard which is pretty cool and his buddy AJ Bowen tags along as one of the cast members. I don't know what it is about our man fella that is off, but I hope the reveal is very interesting instead of some tired cliche. He seems like mix between Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, Matthew Goode, and Cam Gigandet. There are some pretty good fight scenes. The music while their in the maze is actually pretty awesome. I have to say Dan Stevens is a pretty stellar villain and he is actually quite likeable. Most of the time it's pretty hard to make a villain that you actually like and feel bad for. The death scenes were decent, but nothing really special except that some happen at random. Pretty much all of the characters are likeable. The twist was alright, but I was expecting a bit more of an explanation. The ending kind of reminded me of the My Bloody Valentine remake. This was pretty intense and fun to watch. I recommend checking it out for sure.

'71 review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 20 December 2014 03:02 (A review of '71)

I wanted to see this for Jack O'Connell as he has risen up the charts of the film industry. I remember him starting off relatively unknown and playing mostly bit parts. It seems with only a few roles as a lead he has finally gotten noticed as being quite the star. Another reason I notice before watching this is that Yann Demange who directed the zombie TV series Dead Set (which is one of my favorites) directed this as well! The acting is pretty good. There are some pretty intense sequences spread throughout that happen unexpectedly. It has a few small twists and turns that were interesting. Nothing went as I was expecting at all. I thought it was quite an interesting watch although it felt pretty short. It's definitely worth a watch.

No Good Deed review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 19 December 2014 11:44 (A review of No Good Deed)

I have kind of been wanting to see this solely for the actors involved. Other than that I thought it seemed a bit cliche looking. The acting was pretty good as I expected. The characters were likeable even Colin for the most part. They both had such powerful presence. The twist wasn't bad. I think his past kind of made sense for the present if I'm understanding his character correctly. Jeffrey was a prick anybody could tell he wasn't a good husband by the way he was acting and treating Terry. It's quite a slow burner, but once it gets to the point it becomes quite thrilling. I do think this could have been much better, but it was watchable.

[REC] 4: Apocalipsis review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 19 December 2014 07:10 (A review of [REC] 4: Apocalipsis)

So Jaume Balaguerรณ returns to direct the fourth installment to the successful Spanish zombie series which is awesome. Also returning with his is the main star of the show Angela. This one isn't a found footage type of movie, but it does have a slight homage to what started the series. As it does have some moments where it views the scene from security footage. I like that it connects all the movies together. This one reminded me a lot of 28 Days Later. It also has a few similarities with a story that I was interested in doing which is probably why I found this quite interesting. There were a few decent little twists here and there. I could see there being a 5th one the way the ending is set up. It wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be, but it was still somewhat entertaining. It does take awhile for it to build up though. It could've been better.

Predestination review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 17 December 2014 04:47 (A review of Predestination)

I love time travel movies and find them to absolutely entertaining for the most part. This is based on All you Zombies a short story that shouldn't be looked up if you don't want the story spoiled. The directors are the same guys who brought us Daybreakers so if you liked that you might be interested in this as well. Sarah Snook looks like Edward Furlong here. I think they did well at making her look like a man. I have to say this was a stellar performance by her as well. This movie is pretty crazy and has the craziest twists and turns. I think it was a pretty interesting story and it makes you ponder several questions. I actually really enjoyed it and thought it was pretty original. You do have to pay attention though or you will become absolutely lost.

Horrible Bosses 2 review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 13 December 2014 09:28 (A review of Horrible Bosses 2)

So I don't think this sequel was necessary or anything, but I decided to go ahead and watch it anyways. The cast is good anyways. Plus I think Jennifer Aniston has become absolutely gorgeous. Sean Anders is a decent writer and director so this could end up better than I'm expecting. This was actually quite hilarious as I found myself laughing multiple times. There were a few good twists here and there. For a sequel this was actually pretty entertaining. However I don't think it could beat the first one. If they make a third one I wonder crazy antics they could into since they have already checked off murder and kidnapping.
