Just Wright review

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 8 March 2014 08:34 (A review of Just Wright)

I had been trying to check this out for 4 years and just never had the time until I was in Ethiopia. It was such a lovely movie. It had a stellar cast that included Queen Latifah, Common, Paula Patton, James Pickens Jr. Phylicia Rashad, Pam Grier, Laz Alonso, Mehcad Brooks, Michael Landes, and several basketball player appearances. I thought it was funny that most of the time we saw the father he was usually fixing something. Paula Patton plays a little out of type as a woman who just seems to want a free pass in life. There are a lot of good moments that really warm the heart. I recommend checking this out for a romance movie night with your significant other.

Carrie review

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 8 March 2014 08:28 (A review of Carrie)

I actually really enjoyed this Carrie remake more than I thought I would. It even sticks more closely to the book. It has a pretty interesting cast that includes Julianne Moore, Chloe Moretz, Judy Greer, Alex Russell, Barry Shabaka Henley, and several Degrassi actors. Julianne Moore kind of reminded me of my best friend's crazy, religious, psycho mom. I thought it was better to have a girl who was actually closer to the real age of the Carrie character. No guys we didn't need the nudity from the first one haha. Anyways I really enjoyed this one. I recommend giving it a shot.

Parkland review

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 8 March 2014 08:11 (A review of Parkland)

This was a pretty good movie. I did find it strange that they did their best to either not show the Kennedys' faces or show them very briefly. The cast is great and includes Marcia Gay Harden, Zac Efron, Paul Giamatti, Ron Livingston, James Badge Dale, Billy Bob Thornton, Tom Welling (Coming out of hiding after Smallville), Colin Hanks, Jackie Earle Haley, and Jacki Weaver. I thought the guy who played Lee Harvey Oswald looked a lot like him which is kind of disturbing. It was interesting to see what kind f people his family were. I was never really aware of the full story of JFK's death so this really did impact me as a good movie and informed me well. I'd recommend checking it out.

Bad Grandpa review

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 8 March 2014 07:59 (A review of Bad Grandpa)

I really wasn't expecting much when I went to see this. It actually surprised me. I laughed several times and some of the jokes were original. I liked the premise of it having a somewhat scripted storyline with real life reactions. Johnny Knoxville and Jackson Nicoll are quite the comedic pair. The strip scene is so awkward, but probably one of the funniest parts of the movie. Spike Jonze and Catherine Keener are also in this. Anyways if you like the Jackass movies you will enjoy this. Not the best Jackass had to offer, but it ain't bad.

Thought Provoking and Visually Stunning

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 8 March 2014 11:14 (A review of After the Dark)

I have been dying to check this out for awhile. The trailer makes it look really interesting. The cast is also an interesting selection of young actors from across the world. I really enjoyed the philosophical questions the class brings up in the beginning. It's thought provoking and visually stunning. That shows from the beginning that this is a thinking person's movie. It is quite a unique way to show storytelling. The characters all have interesting quirks about them and it's interesting to see what happens to them along the way. There is no way anyone who watches this could say it is predictable. It just has a lot of well done twists and turns. I thoroughly enjoyed this from start to finish. The ending is a bit odd, but it is definitely one of my favorites. So far of all the films I watched so far during the first 8 days of the month of March this is one I would probably watch more times. I highly recommend this.

Return to Nuke 'Em High Volume 1 review

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 8 March 2014 07:30 (A review of Return to Nuke 'Em High Volume 1)

I warn you now before I even begin this review. This movie will be really disgusting. There will be tons of nudity. There will be horrible over-acting and a bad, nonsensical script. That being said you should know what your getting yours into by watching a Troma production.

I liked the first Class of Nuke 'Em High so it's good to see Lloyd Kaufman at the helm again. Also Stan Lee is this entry's narrator! There are more than likely tons of familiar Troma actors. Well that has to be one of Troma's ballsiest ways of starting a movie. There are some fun little references to previous Troma films. I enjoy the ridiculous ways it pokes at current events like bringing up Justin Bieber and even Obama Care. It gets pretty disturbing more so than the other Troma films I have seen. It's actually kind of enjoyable to be mindless zombies to. If you're a Troma fan or generally like off the wall, disgusting movies you will enjoy this. If you aren't this this will definitely not be for you.

The Canyons review

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 8 March 2014 05:05 (A review of The Canyons)

This is another one I am checking out because of Mrskin. Now I am not going into this expecting much with Lindsay Lohan as one lead and a pornstar that is in his first non-porn role as the other. The beginning was weirdly filmed and edited. Only 9 minutes into this so far and I think James Deen still thinks he is in a porno. His acting is just awful. It was a bit too soap opera for my taste. It's also pretty boring. It also feels like Christian Grey and Patrick Bateman fused together to make a weird ass psychotic character. If you are homophobic or uncomfortable with seeing male nudity this is definitely not for you. Also I couldn't tell if Lindsay was attractive or not. It's funny that everyone thinks says she is beautiful in this and that Lindsay is one of the films producers haha. The script is horrible and has really bad dialogue. I mean one scene the guy says "And then bam" four damn times! It's like watching a porno with not as much sex. To think this was written by the guy who did American Psycho is rather sad. This is such a pathetic piece of crap. I felt really puzzled with this whole thing. It doesn't seem finished and seems more like an episode of a bad HBO show. The ending left some things unresolved and unexplained. Why was Christian seeing a therapist? Why do the characters break the fourth wall with looks at the audience? Why are there no likeable characters? Why does James Deen try to impersonate Patrick Bateman? Why is Lindsay Lohan constantly obsessed over for? Why the hell did Christian only kill Cynthia? There are just too many questions left unanswered to list them all. Don't waste your time on this.

Life of a King review

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 8 March 2014 02:03 (A review of Life of a King)

So I decided to check this out as the story has a good premise and the trailer looked interesting. Also I really enjoy inspirational kinds of movies like these. It's in the likes of Freedom Writers, Dangerous Minds, and the sports movies about teams that didn't know that they could achieve. Despite Cuba Cooding Jr. being a consistent player in terrible Direct to DVD flops he shows he still has the skills to make a stunning performance. The acting is great and the characters are interesting enough. I thought the story was truly gripping, compelling, and just plain well executed. Some of it can be a little predictable though. I like how it deals with the story realistically. The ending even made my eyes wet. It is truly a great story and I highly recommend giving it a shot.

Peeples review

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 7 March 2014 08:17 (A review of Peeples)

This just didn't have any charisma. The plot wasn't original, the story was boring, and I hardly laughed at all. It has an interesting cast which includes Craig Robinson, Kerry Washington, David Alan Grier, S. Epatha Merkerson, Tyler James Williams, Melvin Van Peebles, Diahann Carroll, Kali Hawk, and Ana Gasteyer. Kali Hawk and Kerry Washington are my only enjoyments in this movie. They are both just gorgeous and interesting women. I would suggest skipping this one if it's on your wanted list as it just isn't worth the time.

Ender's Game review

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 7 March 2014 08:11 (A review of Ender's Game)

I had friends who read the book when I was still in school. So I had been hearing about this years before it was even thought of on the big screen. The cast includes Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford, Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin, Ben Kingsley, and Viola Davis. I thought the storyline was pretty cool and interesting. The zero gravity scenes are probably the best scenes in my opinion. It was interesting to see Moises Arias play an antagonistic sort of character. The ending had a really amazing twist. It isn't the craziest Sci-fi movie you will see, but for me it was well executed. I say give this a chance as it is really an interesting movie.
