Bounty Killer review

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 9 March 2014 09:13 (A review of Bounty Killer)

I really enjoyed this. There were some good twists. The action was almost non-stop. It was even somewhat funny. The cast includes Matthew Marsden, Kristanna Loken, Gary Busey, Beverly D'Angelo, Alexa Vega, Kevin McNally, and Eve. The characters are a bit cliche, but in my opinion I thought they were still interesting enough. Mary Death is probably my favorite character in this and I liked her little origin story. It's a bit shorter than your typical movie. So if you don't like it you save 20 minutes of your life watching this 70 minute or so movie as opposed to watching a shitty movie that is 90 minutes long. Anyways I recommend giving it a shot.

Green Street Hooligans: Underground review

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 9 March 2014 08:46 (A review of Green Street Hooligans: Underground)

I have never seen the first 2 Green Street movies except I almost did watch the first one. I watched this one first pretty much because Scott Adkins is one of my favorites. So I just couldn't let this slip by. The fighting is brutal, gritty, and just plain awesome. It was definitely a man's movie. It was a little predictable and there was barely a plot. It's pretty much just a live-action beat 'em up. I still found this entertaining and fun. Definitely a must see if you're a fan of Scott Adkins.

Blood of Redemption review

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 9 March 2014 08:25 (A review of Blood of Redemption)

This movie was slightly better than Ambushed. This one also stars Dolph Lundgren, Gianni Capaldi, and Vinnie Jones who had worked together in that film. It also has Billy Zane and Robert Davi in the mix. It may have been better than Ambushed, but it isn't remarkable or even memorable. I would say skip this one

The Protector 2 review

Posted : 10 years, 8 months ago on 9 March 2014 12:15 (A review of The Protector 2)

Well I always love a good Tony Jaa flick. It's also nice to see the little girl badass from Chocolate is also in this. The director is also the one who made Chocolate, the previous Protector movie, and even the original Ong Bak film. It's pretty cheesy compared to the previous film like the fact that he loses his elephant again. Hopefully it won't become the theme again in a third movie, but it's still funny in this one. The acting is pretty bad from the people who speak English. It just feels like none of them actually know the language even RZA seems to act like he doesn't understand the English language. There is also a lot more CGI thrown into the fight scenes. That being said the fight scenes are still pretty awesome and they managed to come up with some original ideas which is hard to do in an action movie. I think Jeeja Yanin plays twins in this, but I could be wrong. It's definitely not as good as the first one, but it is still enjoyable.

There were a few things that bothered me though about this sequel.

1. While the fight scenes were awesome they could be a bit cheesy at times. One specific moment was the electric fight that sounded like a lightsaber duel if you weren't looking at the screen. Another moment was the fire fight as I think it's just not plausible what happened there.

2. The close up camera shots during fights were unnecessary. It kind of made it look like he wasn't even in the scene. Also it just looked plain silly.

3. There are some good twists, but there are also some twists that make you go "What???". Some things bring up questions that are never answered. Why did so and so do this and that? It just leaves you with a quizzical look on your face.

4. RZA's acting is atrocious. He acts like he doesn't know what he's doing. He sounds like someone who is having difficulty speaking English which really doesn't make any damn sense. I had to mention it twice because I really just can't wrap my head around it. What was with his crazy eyes at the end? Very strange!

5. What exactly caused the bikers to attack him? I know it's probably because of the villain. I might have missed something here. I mean I am sure that he either hired them or put a bounty for him, but they were trying to kill him. Was it one of the bad guy's tests? If there is a bounty on his head why weren't there other people trying to kill him as well? If he hired them why didn't he have them killed for their failure? Then again this goes with what I mentioned about questions being unanswered.

Now don't get me wrong I did enjoy this movie, but it is loaded with nonsense, errors, and the plot seems all over the place. It seems like they cut too much from the movie or decided not to finish it completely. I mean it took them around 8 years to get this out so you would think they could have made sure the plot made sense. It was a rather disappointing directing job from Prachya Pinkaew who up until this movie has made some pretty badass stories. I might be being a little harsh. Check it out if you enjoy Tony Jaa, but don't expect a high value story. The fight scenes are the only good thing about this unfortunate sequel.

Baggage Claim review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 9 March 2014 01:36 (A review of Baggage Claim)

While this may be considered pretty bad I actually liked it and thought it was funny. I also could have been blinded from reality because of my crush on Paula Patton. Although she looks odd in some scenes and quite stunning in others. My favorite scene was probably the one with Trey Songz and Tia Mowry. The cast is generally pretty well known other than who I previously mentioned. It includes Derek Luke, Taye Diggs, Boris Kodjoe, Adam Brody, Jill Scott, Jenifer Lewis, Christina Milian, Djimon Hounsou, La La Anthony, Lauren London, Ned Beatty, and Affion Crockett. It's definitely not on everyone's wishlist so I won't recommend this one. However if you do watch it and still don't like it well that's on you not me.

Battle of the Damned review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 9 March 2014 01:07 (A review of Battle of the Damned)

I actually enjoyed this nutty movie. It was over the top and ridiculous, but it was fun. Why hasn't Dolph Lundgren fought any zombies before this? There is a lot of cheesiness in this especially with the addition of zombie killing robots. Also Matt Doran who played Mouse in the Matrix is in this so that's pretty awesome if you enjoyed his quirky little Mouse character. It has some pretty fun moments and the final twist is pretty good. I say if you are a die hard zombie or Dolph Lundgren fan this is way better to check out than Ambush and it's fun. If you aren't a fan of either it is best to avoid this.

The Power of Few review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 9 March 2014 01:01 (A review of The Power of Few)

I thought this film was quite unique and unusual. The cast is fun and the characters are eccentric. We got two hobos one played by Christopher Walken and the other is a little person. We got two gangstas searching around for someone. We got a kid trying to get medicine. We got a mysterious girl. We have a mystery package that 2 operatives are searching for. A guy on the run from the thugs, and a package delivery girl. It's a pretty interesting watch. The cast is an unusual mixture that includes Christian Slater, Anthony Anderson, Q'Orianka Kilcher, Moon Bloodgood, Larry King, Juvenile, Navid Negahban, and Jesse Bradford. I thought the ending was interesting. Anyways give this a shot you might or might not enjoy it.

Ambushed review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 9 March 2014 12:10 (A review of Ambushed)

Yikes! This was bad. The plot was boring. The acting was bland. I mean it stars Dolph Lundgren, Vinnie Jones, and Randy Couture so I guess it would be hard to imagine seeing this as a good film. I hardly even remember what happened in it. It was that useless. I highly recommend letting this one slip on by.

Extraction review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 8 March 2014 10:32 (A review of Extraction)

This low budget Crackle feature was surprisingly entertaining. The action is pretty awesome. The cast includes an odd mixture of Jon Foo, Vinnie Jones, Sean Astin, and Danny Glover. The acting is a bit silly at times and so is the script. I don't know why I liked this movie as much as I did though. I wouldn't really recommend this as it isn't a well done movie. It is one of those so bad it's good kind that just happens to have some pretty cool fight scenes. Enter at your own risk.

We the Party review

Posted : 10 years, 9 months ago on 8 March 2014 10:27 (A review of We the Party)

I love these kinds of movies. It's kind of funny to see pretty much every Van Peebles family member in this though. Dance movies are really interesting to watch in my opinion. Snoop Dogg playing a thug is typical. Y.G. trying to sing was a bit cheesy, but it had a good message to it. There are also some other familiar faces including Moises Arias, Michael Jai White, Tiny Lister, and Orlando Brown. It may not be everybody's cup of tea, but I enjoyed it. It is a bit corny and a little perverted at times. Give it a try and you might find yourself surprised or angry at me for suggesting it haha.
